Is my 3 gallon overcrowded?

Post by Cropster »

I bought 10 of these shrimp in February of 2023, but they have seem to been reproducing relentlessly this past year. I am having big concerns about the population.. should I upgrade to a 10 gallon? Should I give some shrimp away? I tried contacting a local pet store but they were not interested in any :(

Side note sorry for the horrible pictures. Tank clarity is off today because it was feeding day with clay dust and bee pollen. It fogs the water a little for the day.

I wonder if you might be overfeeding them? Looks like they have plenty of green spot alga on the glass to eat. They only overpopulate their space if they have more food than they need.

Mustafa says they are okay up to 100 per gallon of water. I don't think I'd have quite so many, but it seems feasible as long as you can keep their water parameters good by having abundant chaeto to uptake ammonia and nitrates from their waste, and MTS to keep the substrate cleaned and churned.
