Post by TKD »

Hi All,

I was talking with one of the guys from my LSF.
He said that wood shrimp need wood...

I don't think they do.

Do they or don't they?

Thanks,

Hi TKD, did he also say the wood in particular needed to be bamboo? :P

Okay, just kidding there, but have any idea why he felt they needed wood? I always thought they were sometimes referred to as Wood shrimp because of how they might be mistaken for a piece of wood, particularly when perched on one.

I've had my 2 Bamboos for 4+ months now without wood and they're doing good so far. I do notice they like to perch on things, so having things like rock, plants, WOOD etc., even fake ones, can help keep them happy. The only thing I'm worried about is they like to sometimes perch between the suction cup holders of the heater. I hope when it gets colder, they'll know better than to do that when the heater is on. I've placed the suction cups higher on the heater, away from the coils...

Anyway, IMO, no, I don't think it's necessary to have wood in their tank either.

PS: Ah! Thanks for the explanation on your username. Lol, you had me checking all your threads, wondering if I had been one of the transgressors of your name... :-D although TDK would have been tempting to use because of the multimedia storage company.

Hi GunmetalBlue,
Hi TKD, did he also say the wood in particular needed to be bamboo?
No, lol I would have laugh in is face. :-D
He thought that it had something to do with lowering the pH.

Are ph here is about 7 or so I think it should not matter.

Thanks for the confirmation, :-D

They don't need wood. That's bogus information. As GB said, the name "Wood Shrimp" stems from the fact that some people thought that these shrimp look like little pieces of wood, both in coloration and in shape. It's amazing what bogus stories some people come up with...LOL. :smt082
