Does anyone have any information about breeding this species...not sure of the exact name but it's a Macrobrachium sp.

anybody? Do the larvae need brackish water to survive?

Yes, they do. Plus, I have never seen them even carry eggs before, so that alone will make it hard to breed. ;) I have a feeling that prodominatly males are imported for some reason (maybe different sexes form separate groups in nature). Also, the healthy individuals really have black or much darker (more blackish) spots, so I prefer to call them "blackspotted shrimp." Here is a picture of a very healthy individual:

The red rostrum is not always there and only appears after a molt and remains for a few days. The species gets quite large. I had a 4+ inch individual not too long ago.
