I did a search on "amano cherry breed" but it came up nothing. So let me post my question:
Just saw auctions on aquabid offered by Plantsam. In the description, he stated "My amano must cross bread with cherry red sometime ago since I knew pure amano needs salty water to breed".
I know cherry reds have a cusin which is in grey or sometimes can be in complete black color. They can cross-breed. With amano,... But look at the number of feedbacks the seller has, I can hardly believe he mis-recognize the amano shrimps.
amano crosses with cherry reds ... I must be crazy. I thought this is impossible !!
cherry red cross-breed with amano - is this possible

It is impossible. The number of feedback a seller has says nothing about his/her knowledge of shrimp. It just reflects that most people were happy with the transaction in one way or another. It is not uncommon that people mistake all kinds of plain looking "greyish" shrimp for Caridina japonica ("Amano").
Even thinking about a hybrid between a Neocaridina with suppressed larval development (i.e. "mini shrimp" being produced) and a Caridina with normal larval development (i.e. free swimming larvae) shows how little that person knows about shrimp. I'm not trying to put that person down (i'm sure he/she is a nice person) but just stating my observations.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did a google search and found this link pointing back to petshrimps:

This link contains very good information.
I browse through the feedback of the seller and his past trades. I guess he is just a merchant who may sometimes make some incredible claims to attract/trap viewers' eyes and who merely buys from the suppliers and sells to the buyers but know not much about his stuffs.

Actually the vast majority of people selling live animals is like that. They get their animals from wholesalers who get their animals from importer/exporters and pretend they know about the animals they are selling. To gain even a minimum amount of knowledge and experience with any animal you have to keep it and breed it. Then, if you want to widen your horizon, you have to do some research on the animals, i.e. where do they occur, how do they procreate, what's their natural habitat, what are their natural food items...etc..etc. I have yet to encounter or even hear of any shrimp seller (aquabid or not) who I would consider knowledgeable. Just keeping imported shrimp barely alive in dark holding tanks until you can dump them to some unassuming buyer is not the pinnacle of shrimp keeping and won't gain you any experience with the animals.tapmxt1 wrote:I browse through the feedback of the seller and his past trades. I can't blame anyone for not knowing, but I definitely can blame *any* seller who does not bother to find out. After all, I'm putting up information for free on this website and the least *any* seller could do is to come check out the information on this site so they don't spread misinformation.
