Male Cherry or Amano

Hi all,

I have a rather dumb question.

I'm unable to find a better picture of a male cherry shrimp other then Mustafa's kinda fuzzy pic...

Are there ANY brown spots on male cherries? I'm starting to think that mine is an Amano

Both male and female amano have pretty distinctive pattern of dots as shown on the shrimp varieties page. I have 50-60 amanos and while they all have various shades of green or even light to dark blue, all show the same rows of dots.

http://caridina.japonica.online.fr/English/Galerie.htm has some great amano pictures. If it has that pattern of dots, it is an amano. If your shrimp is bigger than the typical cherry shrimp female, it isn't a cherry in my experience (limited as it is). If it is smaller than a female and has sort of random dots on it, I'd say it is a male cherry. Some of my male cherries have almost no color, but I'd never mistake them for a small amano. The body style is enough different that you can tell if you have both shrimp side by side.

Thanks for the fast response.

The shrimp in question is still smaller then the female cherry that I bout at the same time. (1.5 months ago.)

That is what was confusing me and it was not until recently that more brown spots have shown up.

I think it is an Amano though
