Pregnant Cherry Shrimp Death (Save the Eggs?)

Post by John P. »

When I brought her home on 9/1/01:

She is the only loss so far out of 10 total. She was fine last night. She was the largest shrimp that I have. Maybe the oldest, too.

The developing eggs are at a stage where I can see the eyes, etc. I've removed them from the body, placed them in netting near the cannister outflow (for aeration) . . . we'll see if they survive.

Any luck in doing this?

Water Parameters, FYI:

3-week-old setup. No fish--just snails, plants, and what I think are tiny planaria or nematodes.
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
PH = 7.2
KH = 6
CO2 = ~11 ppm
Temp = 82F

Did a 50% water change anyway.

Never tried it. Most people who have tried it had no luck in getting any shrimp to hatch. The cleaning of the eggs by the female seems to be essential.

Good luck with your attempt and let us know if it works out.
