cracked tank

Post by edinjapan »

I lost my big tank last week. That was over150 gallons of water on the floor and 4 large angels plus lots of babies and numerous plants. Also in this tank and totally unknown to me was a thriving group of RCS. I must have found at least 100 of these little guys that were co-habiting successfully with 4 adult angels and their swarms of babies.

Knowing angels it's a wonder that these guys even survived much less kept their numbers up to maintain a viable colony over the last 3 yrs.

Sorry to hear that Ed. :( But yes, shrimp can survive in a tank with fish as long as the tank is big enough and there are lots of small crevices and hiding places for them. Unfortunately, as in your case, you won't ever see them during the day. They become totally nocturnal and forage at night when the fish are sleeping.

Sorry to hear that :( What a mess!

I have cherries living with angels in a couple of tanks. I do see the angels getting the occasional snack shrimp, and in one tank I often find dried up shrimp that have been chased out of the tank. But, I do have large populations of cherries living in these tanks among the heavy planting. I think angels tend to be lazy about hunting, and they're well fed. Maybe cherry shrimp aren't that tasty for them.

I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment. Don't know if there are any tenants left to complain as most of them are students.

My big problem is that the floors are tatami.

I tripped and hit it on the left side panel. Luckily I use thick styrofoam insulation to prevent loss of heat to the surrounding air and that minimized the damage to me.

I guess this is when the word to the wise comes up to watch for hoses and wires when working around your tanks.
