Asian Filter Shrimp and Clown Loach??

Long story short, I have a snail problem that is just not going away (damn prolific snails) and I was recommended to get a clown loach.

I have a male asian filter shrimp. He has plenty of places to hide. He comes out once every few days to feed (or maybe he is coming out at night).

Anyways... all my question really is... will he be okay with a Clown Loach??? Are they too aggressive for him?? It says they are not aggressive, but I worry if they are going to be eating snails they might pestor my shrimp.

Loachs are designed to probe the different nooks and crannys of their environment looking for food. Your shrimp may survive a few molts but eventually when the shrimp molts and is soft the loach will pick it apart piece by piece. Don't get itchy hand syndrom with your tank. The snails are there because there is an excess of food and nutrients that they are eating. Cut down on feeding/ferts and don't jump the gun and dump any crustacean eating fish like puffers, loaches ect. in your tank or its bye bye shrimp. Most all newer tanks get a snail problem of some sort, find a balance of food/ferts and eventually the snails will be outcompeted for food and their numbers will fall.. it may take months but it is the natual way. Everyone has the urge to just jump in and fix a problem they see in their tank but it's best to settle down and let nature take it's course.

Yeah I've had this snail problem for... well I got the snails in June. So yeah... it's to the point I am going to try whatever I can to get rid of them.

I boiled down my whole aquarium after months of having to pick out the snails and flush them. Originally, I was bringing them back to their lake. I felt really bad killing them. But they just kept reappearing. So I am at the end of my rope. I've totally cleaned the tank and boiled and scrubbed all plants and rocks gravel and caves, and they still come back.

I have a whole swarm of baby snails I just have to get rid of. They dirty the tank so much it's ridiculous!!!

I don't want to put my shrimp at risk though. Thank you for your help!

I just have to add, I have started looking for another 20 gallon tank so that I can move my shrimp in there and hopefully buy some more shrimp and a few community fish.

Then I will go ahead and purchase the clown loach.

as much as snails can be a nuisance sometimes, they can also be beneficial. they do love to eat up plain green algae and for some odd reason i love trying to have every single snail i can find in my tank. but they also love to eat my live plantsssss

. so i do a daily routine of squeeshing the snials against the glass to kill them and let me fish/shrimps go at them and eat them apart

I also have pesty planorbids and physids and i've recently put some blue ramshorns eggs in there.

I used to have loads of pest snails and would spend ages picking them out or crushing them. Now I don't feed my fish and snails every day I don't have as many.

So botias don't go well with shrimp? My hubby won't be pleased as he wanted to put some of my baby cherries in his tank when they are a bit bigger.

well what i am seem to be slowing finding out is. even anything that says it is community is not. even my darn fancy guppies are always fighting and trying to kill each other. no love in the fish kingdom.

i mean i went down to the fish room and the one very pretty long tailed guppy. HAS NO TAIL!!!!!!!! the entire tail was chewed off, this was yesterday

. no clue why they got so nuts. maybe because i seperate the males and females so the makes have um blue B lol

oh yea, so needless to say i stuck him in my 10 gall with 5 virgin female guppies. i am hopeing he at least dies in a blaze of glory and gets them pregnant so i can have his blue guppy kids

yes i have two tanks of endlers i breed. i have noticed for some really odd reason they are not readily available.

I'm in the UK and they cost £5 a pair from my lfs......I never bought any because I doubt the pureness of shop bought endlers because i've bought guppy/endler crosses from them before.

well yup, i got mine from a lfs about 1 year ago. they look like the pictures of endlers i see, but yes no guarantee they are pure.
