Swimming hairs

Post by 8x10 »

I have these things in my tank that look like little short pieces of hair floating around. But they can swim -- wiggle kind of like a water snake when they want to move somewhere and not just float. Just kind of scrunch up and wiggle. Any idea of what these are? Must have come in the plants or driftwood I bought at the LFS when I set up my tank.

Could be planaria.

I would cut down on feeding and check and clean (with siphoned tank water) your filter.

Guppies are good planaria eaters.

I'll bet they are gnat maggots. I see them in my aquarium now & then.
