Just an update:

Its been 6 days since hatching, and the 2 larvae are still alive. I'm expecting them to change into little shrimp any time now.

That is good news.
It is fun to watch Tiny Ghost Shrimp. It is a big change from watching the Dwarf Shrimp.

Keep the updates coming

I know its been a few days, but i'm back again :-D

Bad news, one larvae died, and the other is still not a post-larvae. Its been more then 10 days since hatching, I think thats a little odd. maybe i'm not feeding enough...

YES!!!!!!!

I was so excited...The one larvae I had left, is now a Post Larvae!

It changed sometime last night, and I was very excited to find it this morning!

Honestly, I didn't think he was going to live, after the other died, he was just rolling around lifelessy on the bottom. Although, I think what saved him, is that I tried something radically new. I dosed the container he was in with liquid Vita-Chem! It seemed to do the trick, since he was more active later, and became a Post Larvae a day later. It will take more trial and error to determine if Vita-Chem did the trick, but if so, thats very good news!

So yesh, I am very proud of myself for succesfully raising a Ghost Larvae! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Ok, I spoke too soon. He is almost post larvae. He has what look like curled up shrimp legs, but he can't use them, and he still used the "side legs" to swim around.

He does have swimmerets now though. He might have had them before, but he is big enough now that I can see :P .

Hi John, that is some pretty interesting news  . What is Vita-Chem, and what can it be used for? I hope the little guy makes it, let us know.

Ack, the last Larvae died... :(

At least I know I was close, he molted at least twice and had little tiny legs that he could move around a little.

Vita-Chem is a liquid vitamin supplement, designed to put right in fish food, or to dose a reef tank. I don't really know yet if it works or not, but I kinda doubt it since the Larvae died.

Next time use just golden pearls. Several of us have had success with that. Get the "100-200 micron" golden pearls. Feed very sparingly as they only need 2-3 a day each. Turn off anything that moves water at feeding time. I mixed a pinch in a babyfood jar with water and dumped it in. The stuff is pretty much neutrally bouyant.

:( Sorry to here about the loss John. I find it hard when I lose a shrimp but more so when it is a baby. Thank you for sharing the experience in the forum.

I have good news, one of my Amanos just became berried today :-D

There really is a zillion eggs...

I wasn't sure if my Amanos were happy or not, and now I know! Since, I read that unhappy shrimp don't get berried.

Good news but if you are going to persue the project it will be a lot of work. There are a few good threads regarding the breeding/hatching of amanos, including threads by badflash, zax and AnneRiceBowl. Let us know how it goes  .

Good for you! I wish I had the time to take on this project with my Amanos, but all of my breeding efforts are going into the crayfish at this point.
