Great! Because I'm keeping them with Zebra pleco fry; who are also very shy, and slow.

Plecos are generally fine with shrimp.

I only have experience with Tiger, Bee and Cherry. I find Tiger Shrimp the best algae eater.

My experiment:
I grew some water grass in my goldfish tank. Algae grew very fast on the water grass. When the water grass got a lot of algae on the surface, I gave it to my tiger shrimps who ate all algae in a few hours and the water grass looked fresh again.

For hair algae (green ones), malayan are also good at eating them. Whenever I have this problem, I just throw them to the malayan shrimp tank and the hair algae would be gone in a day or 2.

good question. apparently, in southeast asia they call a native shrimp that comes in various colors (or maybe even several closely related species) "malayan shrimp." I don't think they are available in the US.
