the fact that bamboo shrimps are eaten locally would not have an effect on the shrimp pop'n as long as its at sustainable levels. piranhas for example and most fish we keep in our aquariums are eaten by locals. additional demand from aquarists is going to strain the levels and this is what we have to worry about. but since mustafa said these can be bred in captivity it should not be a problem once the levels are depleted in the wild.

As far as i'm aware these shrimp have never been bred in captivity.
