Those bamboo charcoal sticks sound interesting. I wonder how that substance compares to activated carbon in effectiveness of removing toxic compounds.

I had to add power filters to all my shrimp breeding tanks for the purpose of running activated carbon. My yellow shrimp were actually the first out of RCS, green, and yellow to show signs of toxicity. But of course, with a power filter means I must use a tiny-pored sponge prefilter over the intake (especially for the greens with their tiny hatchlings). It worked out, though, because there are always many shrimp grazing on all those prefilters :)
