Good job, Bill! I've had these guys since last year and my two colonies have been reproducing nicely. These guys are not as sensitive as crystal red shrimp when it comes to ph, hardness etc. and seem to be pretty prolific once they have settled in. My population seems to throw mostly blue shrimp, which is a good sign with regards to producing a mostly blue strain. Some of these shrimp are so dark blue that they almost appear black. I will make a species page for these guys and post some pictures soon.

Glad to hear you are keeping these shrimp as well! I now have 2 berried and should have young in the tank soon. Interesting to hear you are getting mostly nice blue young and I will let you know how mine do in this respect.

Good news! Young Blue Tiger Shrimp!

Once they got settled in they are now breeding and pretty much no different to raise than any other dwarf shrimp. As this forums founding father has said more than....well allot....clean water with proper parameters and don't over feed.

These shrimp seem a little fussier than others in this regard as well and are real sensitive to water problems and rapid changes like my CRS. At least this is what I have found thus far.

There still seems to be some confusion about what type water these shrimp do best in and some suggest hard water and high PH??? Mine are in the same water parameters one would keep regular Tiger Shrimp and they are doing very well. The young are as one would expect quite pale and not able to be graded in any way color wise, but do have bright orange little eyes. I'll try for a photo or two in the next couple days.

I am curious as to what water parameters you are keeping your Blue Tigers in? The breeder I purchased from was using soft water and PH 6.6 or so and I am as well.

Congrats on the young! I think the blue tiger shrimp are not any different from normal tiger shrimp when it comes to water parameters. They are pretty adaptable. Your ph sounds just fine. Mine are at about 7.4 ph, about 15 GH and somewhere between 0-3 kh. Conductivity is about 1050 microsiemens and, hence, TDS (total dissolved solids) is about 550-600. My water comes out of the tap very, very hard and at a very high ph (over . I use hydrochloric acid to bring down the kh and hence the ph to the 6.8 to 7.6 area depending on species. I don't change anything else about my water...i.e. it's very hard water for all of my species at this point. I am, of course, experimenting with softer water (I mix RO water into my tap water) for some species, such as CRS, but my results are still inconclusive as to if softer water has any advantages. The trick seems to be to keep the ph around neutral (let's say 6.5 to 7.5) and most, if not all, species of shrimp should be doing just fine.

Hey mustafa,

I think i am having the same problem with the PH coming out of my tap is very high. I would say around 8 also. I was wondering how do you lower your PH? I was wondering how do you use hydrochloric acid to lower the PH? I also have some tiger shrimps myself, and they tend to die here and there after water changes. I notice a lot of people is having this problem recently. But it seems like not that much people found the right way to lower their PH. Any tip or advice would be great.
