Great news, thanks for sharing

How is the growth rate with the young. Is it similar to a Cherry shrimp or closer to the slower Crystal Red shrimp?

I guess I would compare them (Cardinals) to the CRS and a slower growth rate, But one of the other non-identified species is growing at a faster rate and similar to RCS.

I am really excited about the fact that the young seem to have no problems so far growing up in captivity and my Cardinal as well as Dark Maroon shrimp have now stabilized and no more deaths for quite some time. Now if I could just spot a berried female.....

This morning was a good morning in the shrimp room! I was staring into the Cardinal Shrimp tank and found my first berried female.... Then after the excitement wore off I found a second. They do not carry many eggs and they are hard to see as well, but I noticed one looked "fatter" and after a closer look saw this,



The photo quality is not the best because they stay in the rocks at the back of the tank and the glass front and back is covered with bio film...yes on purpose. I will get better shots of the eggs at the first opportunity.

Anyway I will be following closely to see when the young show up, but I am not sure how long these two have been in berry.

I love their white claws! Look like their about to do some old school Michael Jackson dancing! LOL

Once again, I do love to see that a colony is doing so well, especially one such as this.

Yes that is one of the young born to females that arrived berried....

4 in berry now folks..... I will share info and pics as things progress. Hard to get photos as bio-film covers front, back, and sides and I do not want to disturb the tank now that things are so stable...gun shy if you will

Keep the updates coming. I'm curious what the survival rate will be. Not that I am thinking that the rate should be lower just because they are Sulawesi shrimp, but just plain curious. I have a species from Lake Poso (in Sulawesi) breeding in my tanks since April and the survival rate is not any different from other types of dwarf shrimp, so that's good news.

UPDATE:

I now have had my first berried female give birth! There are 7 newly hatched that I can see in my tank and perhaps a few more hidden. This is a exciting day for me and it was about 20 days from berry to birth. I will indeed pay attention to survival rate as well and let you know how it goes.
