The shrimp might have already gone through a lot of stress before you bought it, which might be responsible for the "sudden" shrimp death. I've seen that before with imported animals (also some Macrobrachium) where the shrimp suddenly "drop dead" although they were fine and eating happily just a day or even hours ago.
