It sounds like you may be buying from a Lab distributor. I have been told that fairy shrimp wont hatch unless I buy their $200 hatchery, lol. They may have specific requirements for hatching if they guarantee a percentage success rate.

You're correct with the distributor, and they do claim 80%. However, the only requirement claimed is the food type. I'm quite aware that the odds of a natural habitat being strictly Chlorella is very slim, but there is always the possibility of the nauplii hunting food by chemical cues or sight. Both of these are known to happen with marine invertebrates, and there is always the possibility that such things happen with their freshwater counterparts. Truth be told, I don't have the cash on hand to order a pure culture of Chlorella to sustain them to maturity.
