Seems I lost my buddy in doing this, my amano is ready for another batch again. For those of you who've successfully raised shrimp through a 2 stage life cycle, can you offer any hints as to why the amano larvae are being so finicky?

Personally, I don't think feeding them algae is the best way to go. I believe mysis stage (late stages) larvae tend to be more zooplanktivorous than phytoplankivorous. But I honestly don't know what exactly Amano larvae like to eat. If you can obtain and culture tetraselmis microalgae, that has been said to increase tendancy to feed, at least in marine shrimp.

Well, here is what I've learned this time around.

Greenwater seems to work very well, I would suggest that using about 10 gallons of salt water might be much more ideal because the shrimp do very well 30-33ppt, and badly above or below and I rapidly lost my population. They survived 18 days at least, in a little 2 quart setup. The small setup was too unstable, lots of evaporation dispite my efforts.

To make the greenwater i just put an old tank w/ a sand substrate onto the patio and covered it with a thin mesh. With a really dense greenwater tank, the adults wouldn't be visable. I expect that the tank could be drained, after 1 month, down to a volume of ~1/2gallon and filled with fresh clear water to find the postlarvae.

When i get some more salt i will finish this project, but for now it's on hold.

I have a couple japonica (2 females among 4 males) coming up with eggs in the tank I keep my A. gabonensis in now. So I'll probably try my hand at it in a few weeks.
