The new un-everything 10 gallon tank this morning.

A fair bit of algae is coating parts of the glass, rocks and sand. The snails have left trails in it.

A closeup of the lava rock that was "bubbling" last week is now coated with algae, the bubbling pretty much over.

Okay... After a bit of gentle persuasion I was able to catch one of the berried females from the Filtered 10 gallon tank. After a slow and easy acclimation I will put her in the new unfiltered 10 gallon opae tank. I look forward to seeing something move in this tank, there's absolutely no water movement in it, and the only things I see regularly is the Malaysian Trumpet Snails and the chaeto.

Fingers crossed the Opae Ula shrimplets supply that movement!

Here's Mom and eggs...

and... I found one of her future roomies! There's nearly 25 of them in the tank. No water movement, no shrimp. They're ALWAYS out and about in my other tanks.

I'm a bit concerned. Are they still alive? I've not found any bodies.

Okay. Maybe I'm spoiled.

Well... this sucks.

I got up a few minutes ago (yup! I'm a graveyard shifter!) to find the LED unit over this tank had died. It had only been up and running on this tank, so for only how long? (I'll have to go check! LOL!)

I was thinking "Well, that's a shame. Good thing I have another one just like it that I only used for a week or so over the other 10 gallon tank". I plugged it in and it didn't work either! What's up with that?! Do they have some weird built in timer of some sort? LOL!

Yes... I plugged both units into other outlets to check, still not working. I really do like the look of LEDs over tanks, but those are the only ones I have so I've had to put a fluorescent over the tank. Luckily, I had a spare 50/50 tube to put in it.

Here's the new look. (I want my LED back!)

:)

Bad luck but the new light really lights up the whole tank. Nice.

Unfortunately, Ken, it's not as bright in person. The camera deceives.

There is quite a heavy bio-film "slick" on the waters surface, (see the bubbles?). I'm wondering how much light it's absorbing...

PS I found a reef shop just south of Bellevue (east of Seattle) today that has a very small collection of opae ula. Kept in marine/reef conditions. Sells them for .99 cents each. Stock was so limited I couldn't see any.

Shop owner is looking for a source. I'll keep em in mind. :)

Added a new LED unit today. Just on this tank for a try out, will be going over my 10 gallon Sexy Shrimp and hermit crab tank once it's cycled.

Can you see the color difference? There's more of a blue actinic look to the new light.

The blue really softens the lava. Looks very interesting. I would remove some of the algae on the surface. A brine shrimp net works well. I do not like that look in my tanks. I do not think it violates the accepted setup.
