Who even told you that this is a panaeid shrimp? You know how shrimp get mislabeled all the time. Many panaeid shrimp can get used to very low salinities to begin with. Penaeus vannamei, one of the most common food shrimp you find in your supermarket is also bred in ponds in Arizona in really hard freshwater. So, finding panaeid shrimp in freshwater is nothing new.
