Color of Caridina cf. babaulti eggs? Is it yellow or green?

Post by Kenshin »

Mustafa or anyone with this information,

Two days ago, I saw one of my green shrimp carrying green color eggs (and that is when I announced it in another earlier post). Tonight, I saw a green shrimp carrying yellow eggs. I hope it is not the same shrimp or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. I can see through their saddles, their ovaries are either medium dark green or light yellowish-green in color. So can anyone tell me if this happens to them?
Also, what is the exact color of the eggs by Caridina cf. babaulti? Or is it just different types of Caridina cf. babaulti? Thank you for any input that you could provide.

I can't say about green shrimp as I don't have any. I can say that my Red Cherry shrimp often have green behind their heads, but before they molt and tyhey eggs go underneath, they change to the pinkish color.

The eggs become more yellowish towards the end of their carrying cycle shortly before the shrimp hatch. The eggs are bright green when the female just starts carrying them.

So I guess it is the same shrimp then :-D . I thought it might change color as it approaches hatching time. Well, at least I know it is not anything I have done or whatever. And this morning, I did observe the green shrimp carrying the eggs. The eggs did look light yellow in color (can't wait to see those shrimplets :D ). Around 20 eggs or so. Thank you Mustafa for your verfication and information. I really appreciate it. YEEEEEEE HAAAAAA :o

Kenshin, please let us know when you discover any little green shrimp running around. Keep in mind that newly hatched green shrimp are almost half the size of newly hatched Red Cherries, so you'll probably notice them a few days or maybe even weeks after they hatch.

Guess what guys? I have another green shrimp carrying a load of eggs. I mean "a lot of eggs". :-D It must have been at least 30+ eggs to 50 eggs. I hope I am not exaggerating.
I have been observing the female pregnant green shrimps for quiet a while now and I know they have been developing their green ovaries (getting bigger/thicker everyday). Well, the eggs are light green color and the other female green shrimp is still carrying the light yellow eggs (probably close to 20 eggs or less) but smaller in body size overall compare to the female with the load of eggs. I will definitely update more information when I see little shrimplets in the future. Thanks everyone. :D
