gravel or sand for macrobergi prawns

the big ones i mean should i put fine grain sand in or big river bottom gravel for them ? :roll:

They like softer bottoms like sand or mud. Lots of shade and places to hide. Use fake plants, they will eat the real ones. heck, they eat the fake ones. They eat each other.

A word to the wise. If you get a bunch of post larval macrobergi prawns be sure to have the tank set up far in advance and have loads of places to hide. In a bare bottom tank with no hiding spots the population can collapse overnight to about 25% of what you started with. At that age they molt almost daily and if they have no place to hide the others eat them, even if they are well fed. It is just sport for them.

Given the right conditions they will grow form 1/2" to 1.5" in about 2 weeks.

will do im going to put alot of drift wood in there so they can climb on hide feel arround etc the fun part is im waiting to see the cashier when i buy 55 gallons of spring bottle water lol the tap water here in the southwest is way to calcified it gums up everything like pumps and the glass is a nightmare last time i did it arround a month or 2 it gumed up my tetra 300 filter so thank u guys i guess im just a mother hen over them and my first tank all the time my wife is like :roll: thx for all the help and support when i get them ill post some pics on here

I feed my prawn plenty of food, but I always see it chewing on a piece of small gravel for a while and then spitting it back out. Whats up with that?

weird maybe its a tooth brush ? or covered in alage ? can u send me some pics of your prawn ? i dont know much about there feeding habits i have a friend that has some baby ones but i have not heard from him im having a very hard time trying to find the macro bergi rosenbergi blues for sale :roll:
