I have been wanting to get a cherry shrimp for awhile, and I was wondering how he would get along with my Platy fish. Is it a peaceful shrimp species or aggressive? I don't want my fish eaten.

Cherries would be dinner for the platy fish. On a google for platy fish I found:
Diet
Platies are omnivorous. They eat worms, instects, crustaceans, insects and plant matter.
The Red Cheeies are crustaceans and would be ripped up pretty quick. Drop some live brine shimp in with them and you'll get the picture.

I have had ghost shrimp in with the Platies and they did quite well, the shrimp eventually died of old age. Are Cherry shrimp much smaller than Ghost shrimp?

A little bit smaller....but if you do put RCS in there with the platy.....say good-bye or good-night (whichever come first).....I guarantee you.

From experience, I can tell you almost any fish that can get to 2 inches or so can eat juvenile RCS, regardless of their diet (unless they are strictly herbivores). I have 2 RCS left, and my 2" Penguin Tetras still bother them, although they are too big for them to eat.
