With 12 animals you are more than likely to get males and females. That should not be a problem at all. Of course you could "win the lottery" (or the reverse...whatever that is) and get 12 males and 12 females. But that is highly unlikely with domestically bred animals.

With imports however it is very likely (I don't sell any import animals). Most of the import animals that arrive in the US are females for some reason. This is true for any algae eating shrimp I have encountered so far.

Your order will go out on Saturday. :) Are these your first shrimp? Read the articles I wrote so far in the "Articles" part of my website to avoid any mistakes.

Take care,
Mustafa

No I have 8 ghost shrimp and am holding 6 amano shrimp for my friend, one of the amanos is holding ALOT of eggs. To bad I dont have the time and experience to raise the little guys. Anyways do you know what day I should get the shrimp?? And is it UPS of Fed-ex? Since I got to school during the day, it would be very helpful, sorry for the questions. :)

I am glad you found the answers. It always pays to read the shipping information I posted on the website :-D . By the way, I would recommend that you put the cherry shrimp in your established planted tank. Shrimp do not take well to being put in newly established tanks. If you put them in a newly established tank they will die for sure in short order.

Just wanted to let you know. Read my articles here and also check out previous posts on the board for more info.

Take care,

I'm not sure whats wrong with it being new. It will have alot of established media from my 55 gallon tank. Its cycled fine. I will keep the water clean as can be. Hows 25% water change every other day sound?

I just got the shrimp today! There so small that my sponges with the bacteria can support them so easy. Put them all in my 12 and there doing good. I only counted 11 but there so small I may have not seem them all, or lost count. Either way, i'm so stoked and can't wait untill they start growing and I can start having little babies! Thanks!

Glad they arrived! :) I hope you did not forget one of the shrimp in the bag...that happens sometimes when they cling to the java moss or just stay in one corner of the bag.

You will be surprised at how quickly they will actually grow. :)

...beautiful red coloration on males, less red on females.
The above is a quote from another shrimp website (I won't name names). What's the deal? Isn't it the other way around? :?

My Cherries that display a more intense red coloration seem to be females. So far those are the only ones I've noticed holding eggs. I have quite a few brownish/tan Cherries, about 3 to 1 ratio compared to the reds and I've haven't noticed any holding eggs. Maybe these are males, or they could be still too young.

Yes Amanda. It's the other way around. But this shows again how little people know about shrimp species, even people who sell them.
