Curious: Shrimp out of water?

So, I'm fish sitting, at the moment. A small tank with 2 ghost shrimps and 1 betta. While sitting across the room, I noticed the betta chasing the shrimp. The shrimp suddenly lept from the water, and landed with a little wet sound on the side of the bowl -- didn't make it to the top, as the water level is quite low. I quickly came over, tilted the bowl so that the water level swished him back in, and the betta stopped chasing the shrimp.

Could the shrimp have made it back into the water without my assistance, in case this happens while I'm not here? :/ I almost thought the ghost shrimp accidently splatted himself when he jumped out of the water.

I think I'm going to buy her a bowl cover for Christmas. 8) Or a larger tank. Or both. *cough*

Why would you want to put shrimp in with a betta in a small tank? Betta pretty much hate every living organism it sees even its potential mate. I can understand if it is other fish such as guppy/platy or community compatible fish with adult ghost shrimp. I have seen ghost shrimp jumped out of my tank and landed on the side of the inside tank glass and it pretty much is stuck to it until I removed it and place it back into the water. I would advise a small tank for the betta and a separate tank for the shrimp. :)

it depends on the betta. i have had one male bette in a 55 gallon with guppies, amanos, ghost shrimp, gouramis, a female betta and they all did fine but. air breathers seem to want to fight more then anything ie the gourami male would pick on the female and the betta male would pick on the betta female, they did stop after awhile though. also i have also had male bettas that yes hatted everything, they would chase my darn guppies all over. so i have had it both ways. back when i used to keep 5-10 bettas at a time it was easier to find a betta that loved others and put the haters in the jail cells :)
