I have a large heavily planted tank with a healthy population of Red Claw shrimp. I would like to remove all the shrimp and move them to another tank. As soon as the shrimp see me with a net they hide and all but dissapear in the plants. Is there some sort of trap that can be made or purchased or some other tricks that would make it easy to catch these guys? Any input would be appreciated.

Remove all the hidey places and plants then catch them. As far as traps go, it sounds interesting but I don't know of any.

Shrimp trap for 16 bucks

I always put a piece of algae wafer or other piece of food in the tank, then wait for them to come for it, and net them out.

I take a small plastic coke bottle like this one and cut it.



then just invert the top hold it with a rubber band. Put some food in the bottom place it in the tank and soon they will climb in.

Thanks for the trap idea Alexperex! I will try it out today and let you know the outcome. The option of removing the plants and catching the shrimp is not one I want to do. I hope it works.

I did not have a small plastic bottle, so I have used a 2 liter pop bottle. I place some algae pellets in the bottom and placed is sideways in my tank.
I checked back 2 hours later, 21 shrimp, 16 mollies, 2 cory cats.

Success!!

Emptied out the shrimp in my 29 gallon tank and reloaded. 2 hours later 17 shrimp and 0 fish!

Glad its working for you, I got the idea from someone but don't remember who. Its a great way to catch shrimp and fish. And the best part its almost free.
