Hi all,

Since I'm starting to see my Cherry shrimplettes now I'm noticing something that I don't remember anyone mentioning.

The babies are different sizes and they are less then a week old.
I'm seeing 3 mm ones and some that are 2 mm or so.

Any comments?

Hi TKD - First, a great big congrats on your first Red Cherry shrimplets!!!

What's going on with the different sizes is completely normal, so no worries. There will be an even bigger disparity as they turn into juvies.

The more competition for food - meaning smaller tank, hardly any algae (which normally provides constant grazing), crowded conditions - usually equals some shrimp not reaching it's full growing potential.

But even with all the priviledges, there will still be some disparity, at least, that has been my experience. I attribute part of it to personal differences such as robustness and aggression (in terms of food). In your case, it might also be how quickly they got off the ground after birth and started foraging.

I was expecting size differences just not so soon...

There should be lots to eat as I don't vacuum (impossible to do as my bottom is java moss) when I do water changes.

I just hope there are a few males...
