Bamboo Behavior
I just purchased a Bamboo shrimp last night and have been really enjoying watching him use his fans to "wipe" the tank for food. What I would like to know, from those who have Bamboo shrimp, whats the typical behavior of these guys? In the pet store he and all 16 of his tanks mates barely moved, now my little guy is zipping around the tank. He's not the greatest swimmer since he bumps into objects sometimes and falls over a little bit, but he seems happy.
If your shrimp is wiping the floor instead of sitting in the current and filtering it means that you probably do not have any current to speak of in your tank. These shrimp do best when they can perch in the current all day and just filter the water. If there is no current they will run around and "sweep" the ground for edible particles. The most likely reason why your shrimp is probabl zipping around the tank is because of the change of water parameters between the store tank and your tank. Your shrimp is getting adjusted. Give it some time and it should calm down. And buy a little powerhead (with prefilter foam if you have other small shrimp) to create some current in your tank.
