Hi everyone!! Just got my cherries on Thursday from Petshrimp. They all made it in Great shape.
I have been doing freshwater aquarium for over 35 years, and really like the challenge of freshwater planted aquariums. I have only had a few shrimp over the last 5 years, amano, and bamboo, and they always do great in our planted tanks.

Just wanted to let everyone know a little trick when we change 10% of our water every week. Our tap water during the winter here in Pocatello Idaho comes out of the faucet at 40 f. So we speed up raising the tempature by placing a couple of tank heater in our 5 gallon bucket of cold water. This will raise the temp. to about 75 f in about an hour. We of course use a product called Ultimate made by Aquascience to treat our water. We purchase this and our sponge filters from Jemco.

I take a quart of water and put it in the microwave and bring it to a boil, dump it in and repeat until I get the right temps. It usually takes about 3 shots.

If you have a test kit and can test for copper and lead, sample your hot tap water. Mine shows no traces of copper or lead after I use Amquel+ to kill the chlorine. This allows me to use warm water right out of the tap.

made mistake once of putting in heater, then immediately plugging it in instead of waiting 15 minutes. cracked about as fast a burnt out lightbulb.
and nowhere near the temp difference as you're dealing with.
