I have 3 tigers....2 look like males and have black stripes but the female has red stripes.

Is it normal for the stripes to be red aswell as black?

After searching apparently my female is soon to be a shrimp of the dead kind.

Well she's not a milky white colour and has had the red stripes since I got her from the shop. She's eating algae from the glass and moving around.

I guess time will tell.

I also bought a red tiger once and misunderstood that it was a rare one. Then Mustafa told me that it would die soon and finally it really died after just a few days. However, I visited a fish shop last week and saw a card on a fish tank that read "Red Tiger Shrimp". I'm confused. Don't know if they're really red tigers (a new invention) or will-die-soon tigers

with m y short experience with shrimp and tier
i can say all the red stripe tiger i got died .... and the black stripe still ok and breeding so i am kind of agree with this fact

I just thought I would update on the red striped tiger......the stripes became black again and it's still alive and active 11 days later.

How long can you keep a shrimp before you can assume it's not going to die through the stress of being shipped etc?

I would like to add a few more tigers into the 10 uk gallon the other two are in but I don't want to add anymore until I know they are going to be fine in there.

Glad to hear your shrimp is still alive. Just because a shrimp shows signs of stress it doesn't always mean it'll die, but many times it does. It really depends on how much stress the animal suffered and if it's healthy/strong enough to recover. Domestic shrimp all started off as stressed out imports and it's hard to get a good group to survive, but when it happens it's happy days ahead. I usually feel good about a shrimp after it's gone through at least one successful molt and then I'll usually breath a sigh of relief.

One of the shrimp moulted the other day....not sure which one it was but when i saw the empty bodycase stuck to the filter intake I thought *Oooooo no* until I realised what it was.

Two of my amanos just moulted again too after a long time....they are almost two years old. Amanos are a breeze compared to tigers IMO.

from where in london did you purchase your tigers?

I got them from my lfs in East London Andrew.

They only recently started stocking them because I kept bugging the owner to get them in. I couldn't say for sure if they still stock them or not.

I might go down there tomorrow because the 2 tigers i'm keeping seem to be doing ok and i'm sure they would appreciate some friends.
If I go down there i'll let you know if they still have tigers.

Sod that i'm getting around five or more.

There are tiger shrimp that keep their stripes red and others have their stripes black or blue. I have some and have had them for months.
There is even a black tiger shrimp. If the shrimp is not a milky color in most cases it is a healthy shrimp.

Janet have you changed your location? i am preplexed asto how i knew you were in london
and more importatly thanks for checking on the shrimp if they are there i would be glad to know the shop so i may prehaps visit

Hi Andrew,

No I haven't moved to shrimpsville I just got carried away seeing other members exotic locations.

I'm also without a car but it's not too long on the bus for me as long as it's not the rush hour. I popped down there today and bought some more tigers and cherries. I took several strands of hornwort with me so the shrimp had something to cling onto during the journey home.

One of the tigers had red stripes so he swapped that one. The cherries are very pale orange like the other time I bought some. I'm slowly acclimatizing them now so finger's crossed they'll settle down and colour up soon.
