Big announcement for my Rusty Macro. shrimps!!
Posted: Mon Mar 13, 2006 8:56 pm
Hi folks,
I just checked earlier tonight that my 2 of the 3 female Rusty Macro are carrying eggs within their legs
. The other female would be carrying eggs also soon
.
I have 2 males, and one is the dominant male (bigger in size), and the other one is the smaller male. I just recently moved 2 Rusty Macro shrimps (the smaller male and one big female) into another tank with the ghost shrimps in which I am having some success in breeding the little ghost shrimps. The smaller Rusty Macro. male start to quickly grow at a faster rate compare to when it was sharing the tank with the dominant male shrimp. Beautiful little creatures. 3 days ago I observed all of my other Rusty Macro shrimps (dominant male with 2 females) all molted at the same time (interesting coincidence
) and then they immediately hid within my plants. Then, I found the female with large greenish eggs today. I am so happy that I want to share with everyone.
. (now I just need to find a good camera to take good pictures like I have promised all of you but have not done it yet!! - sorry
).
However, here is the bad news: I just witnessed the male Rusty Macro. shrimp literally caught a ghost shrimp (small one) with one claw (in one fast strike) and start feeding on it. The Rusty was actually feeding on a pellet until he saw that ghost shrimp. Then it decided to dump the pellet and catch the poor shrimp
.
I just have to wait to transfer all of my Rusty Macro. to a tank of their own (with lots of hiding space) at my earliest convenience. Having 2 little boys (1st is 2 yrs old and 2nd one is 3 months old) at the house is harder to find the time and I also have to cycle my spare tank first (a 20g long) before I even think about the transfer. Also, the other 3 Rusty Macro. shrimps are sharing a 20g tank with my green shrimps, snowball shrimps, and amano shrimps. I know it is a very bad thing to do (even though my green shrimp population are growing at a steady pace and a slower pace for my snowball shrimp) but I just need to wait for the extra tank to finish cycling, and hopefully they would not prefer shrimps instead of my food for them. So I would totally understand if you guys want to criticize me for my actions in regards to this matter but for right now - I do not have a choice based on my situation with my family and work. The reason why I am stating these experiences of mine is to share this with other shrimp fanatic hobbyists (like me) that it can "really" happen in regards to a Macro. sp shrimp literally catching baby fry or smaller shrimp in one snap. I am still in a big
when I saw that!
To end this, I would like to give another sincere thanks to all the forum members and especially to Mustafa. All of you have given me great advices from the very beginning when I first started this hobby. I really greatly appreciate this. I cannot believe right now I am having success in breeding RCS, green shrimps, ghost shrimps, Rusty Macro., and hopefully snowball shrimps in the near future. I cannot wait to challenge myself in breeding crystal reds, bumblebee, and Sri Lanka shrimps in the future when I have a bigger house with more available tanks. So until then, I might be still asking for advices from you guys in the future (of course I would definitely search the forum first before asking) and of course my thanks again to all of you always.
and sorry for this long announcement....
