Just wondering if these fab shrimp (Caridina cf. babaulti) are available in the UK yet?

I'm sure they show up in dealer's tanks once in a while but you will hardly recognize them since they will be stressed out/sick and probably about to die. At that point they are not green at all. Plus, they will most likely not be labeled "green shrimp" but just "algae eating shrimp" and it will be up to you to figure out what it really is.

The challenge about establishing breeding populations in captivity is that the imported shrimp you start out with are half-dead to begin with. So, unless someone has managed to establish a breeding colony in the UK I doubt you will be able to get high-quality animals anywhere. It looks like the shrimp hobby in the UK is non-existent at this point.

I was talking to my lfs owner for ages before he decided to take the plunge and order the shrimp we talked about...Tigers and Cherries. I didn't even know of a lot of the other types of shrimp before joining this site.
They only had "algae shrimp" aka amano previously so I bought a few and have had them now for almost two years.
I now keep cherries and tigers too but you're right about the shrimp hobby here being well behind many other countries. I think a lot of aquarium keepers in the UK don't keep inverts unless they are food for their fish.

There are bigger aquatics shops than the one I go to but as I don't have a car the long journey home would be unfair on any creature I bought.

I'll have to bring up the green shrimp to my lfs and see if he can order some....he read me a long list of shrimp he could order but because I hardly knew anything shrimp wise back then I can't remember the names.

Oh by the way could you please tell me any way to tell if a clear coloured shrimp is a green shrimp rather than say a cherry shrimp that is also pale in colour?

you can try monty at trimar aquatics in cornawall
he has sent me shrimp before that have been healthy and now carry egg's
he usually has 4-6 differnet species on his stock list and will arrange same day delivery anywhere in england
actually only 3 there today !

Thanks Andrew I faved it and will keep checking what stock he has.

He's cheaper on the tiger shrimp than my lfs but dearer with the cherries.

Oooo how I hope he gets some green shrimp in stock.
