Shrimp Color and Other Questions

Hey, well to my slight dismay I have a few issues and I'm finding ways to understand it all more. I was wondering, everyone tells of ways to check to see if a cherry shrimp is male or female, but I'm curious about the "saddle" that everyone talks about...and other methods to tell if a cherry shrimp is male or female without the color?

Also...I also have a question about red ramshorn snails, how long does it take for their babies to become red, because so far I see a few browns and I got them specifically for their red color ( :? ) ...I mean do they start out sorta brown and later color or are the brown ones going to stay brown, they're like the size of a pea...slightly smaller.

saddle = ovaries. for the rest, search the site as it has been discussed about a trillion times...even recently.

So....what species of shrimp is a red ramshorn SNAIL? Tell me...what does one of the stickies say about posting non-shrimp related topics? This is at least the second time you are asking questions about snails. Discussing other aquarium animals peripherally in the context of a shrimp topic is fine, but asking a separate question about non-shrimp aquarium animals is NOT. Might have as well ask what you should feed your goldfish.....

And lastly...please correct the spelling of "California" in your profile before I am forced to correct it myself. Everybody makes spelling mistakes and typos but misspelling the name of the state you live in is a totally different matter.

Hi nathan515

As for the saddle, Check out the Snowball Shrimp in the Shrimp Varieties Page.
The second picture down shows a saddle, very well.
The White Mass behind the head is the saddle.

This is what you are looking for on your Red Cherry Shrimp. It should be a yellowish color instead of the white on the Snowball.

I hope this helps
John

IN REPLY TO WHAT MUSTAFA OF THE FORUM SAID:

Well lately I've seen people talk about it yet I still can't see it even in a shrimp I'm pretty sure is a female. Also I've been working over time and coming home late at night since its spring vacation and I don't have school for one week and I need all the money I can get. So coming home I don't exactly have a lot of time to further research into this. I understand and read the shrimp article, but still can't exactly see. You are complaining about this being posted before and I should find it myself. Most of the questions here from other people are probably post once or twice before, I don't see you go after them all, whats the use of this forum if we're to go out and research to find the answer and use it as a final resort. Please, if you're going to attack me for posting something that you've seen before, again...then I am waiting to see you attack other numerous posts that have questions that have definately been posted up before...please by all means.

I noticed California was spelled wrong from the second day here...I just didn't know that you would be so bothered by it, I mean out of all the things you should be watching out for, you go after the way I mispelled California?!? Alright...and I believe this was the first time you've ever replied to any of my posts, nice to meet you too.

About the snail...I just thought that this place was a friendly community that will help you even with a subject that is a bit different. I didn't know I was going to get attacked because of it. What am I suppose to do? Sign up into a completely different forum just to post the only one question I had? I posted the snail question up for another reason and it is in small relations to the shrimp because I was wondering if the snail's color that is being effected...is it also the reason why my shrimps are so as well, like if it can be linked together somehow?

If you want a question that wants to relate to shrimps than I guess I'll rephrase it, but it'll sound weird:

Revision: Hi everyone, I have a question. My shrimps are cool and I added some red ramshorn snails and the shrimps are still cool with them and the eggs hatched but one shrimp was a little freaked out and I was wondering if it was because the baby of the red ramshorn snail was not red and how come they aren't as red as the parents and when will they be, please tell me so I can save that one shrimp from certain doom?

If thats not good enough than I'll revise it better k?

Please....have a nice day and may the almighty GOD reign forth forever more upon his throne forever smiting those that shall forever be smited for those who believe in GOD of course. By the way these posts lately have been written to me for the one day off I got...thank you.

This alone would have gotten you banned although you tried really hard to convince me to ban you in the rest of your post, too. So, you're out. We all don't have time but most people do their research and don't just repeatedly come here, ignore all rules, refuse to do any research so that others do the research for them and then, to top it off, complain about having to do research and adhere to the rules to the forum owner. A community has rules and this person has chosen to ignore them. I have no tolerance for that.
