I have a 10 gallon, heavily- planted tank with 6 gold tetras. I proceeded to order 10 Red Cherry shrimp plus 1 pregnant female from Aquabid.com, which will arrive this week. I feel terrible because I didn't do the full research on compatibility with fish. Do the Red Cherries have any chance with the tetras? I don't have a seprate tank to put the shrimp so any advice or tips would be helpful.

Have you tried using the search function?
Type in tetras and have a good read....I found several threads regarding tetras.

By gold tetras do you mean Glowlight Tetras? These grow larger than Neons.

Some quick advice is to get some plants which your shrimp can use for hiding. This can be some moss or najas which are especially useful for when you have baby shrimp. Hope you find what you need in your searches, if not just ask

From experience I can say that my Gold Tetra didn't attack the cherry shrimp, but they ate a lot of the babies.

Also there are a couple of different species of Tetras being called "Gold Tetra" in the trade right now. Some grow larger than others and may pose more of a risk to your shrimp.

Update: Its been a few days now since I added the Red Cherry shrimp. The order I recieved contain 1 pregnant female, 1 adult male and 10 juveniles. Amazingly all are still alive and doing quite well. I thought for sure they would spend most of their time hiding in the java moss or in the bogwood cave. Nope, they love to grave on the top of the bogwood and all over the plants. I have yet to see the tetras take interest but I know things can always change instantly. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I never knew shrimp would be so interesting to watch. They entertain me and my 3 year old daughter for hours!

Happy to hear of your success so far. The plants will come in handy when the eggs hatch and you have babies/shrimplets in your tank. Until then I hope you and your daughter will continue to have fun Please keep us updated

it is my experience that the cherry shrimp will hide a great deal more when a predatory fish is swimming about. the culprit in my 29 gallon was a lamp eye tetra and size isnt always important. for i have red blue columbian tetras in my 60 and they dont mess with my shrimp at all (just ghost right now) but after i took out the lamp eye my cherries came out and were much more social. so if they are out and about u are prbably in the clear.

Well, its been over a month and the shrimp are all alive and I have newborn shrimp. They like to hide in the java moss but mature/juvenile shrimp are out all the time. The bigger ones graze on the bogwood and plants while the tetras glide pass them. I am quite surprised that harmony has remained and been acheived. I have another pregnant female so things are going well.
