hi. im new to shrimps when i jus read the article today on shrimps from the TFH magazine. LOL its amazing . oh. it also left me with a whole bunch of questoins =S. so if i ask a lot.. pls dun feel bugged =s. thx!
anyways.. i saw some species of shrimps and im totally facinated. =D i wanna get some red cherry shrimp, tiger shrimp, snowball shrimp, pearl shrimp, and a type of filter shrimp that look nice. =)..
AFTER this shrimp research/hunting afternoon, i wondered if putting some friendly crayfish in the tank would be good? and then i wondered if electric blue crawfish are good tankmates with shrimps??
the problem is. i only have a 15 gallon tank available becuase all my other tanks r taken up by discus LOL and i dun wanna mix them together.. since i've had discus eat ghost shrimps before. hmm . i may be able to upgrade into a bigger tank.. but im not sure how many shirmps in can fit into a 15g to stay healthy. ?
Now for substrate.. i want to hve some plants.. BUT i dont know if they will survive in sand...? If not.. i can switch to gravel =).
[section asking for place where shrimp are for sale deleted due to rule violation]
THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!!! =)

Sounds like you are really excited about shrimp keeping!
Your best bet would be to read the articles on shrimp keeping as well as all of the shrimp variety profiles and the
forum rules. You'll learn all about which kinds of shrimp should and should not be kept together.Once you are done with that, spend several evenings reading threads in this forum to learn all you can about keeping shrimp and other related inverts.
When I first started here, I spent many hours simply reading everything I could here. I found that almost all of my questions had already been answered before and that there is a wealth of information here. Just takes some time to sift through, but shrimp are neat enough that they are worth the time investment.
Good luck. Shrimp can be addictive!

Welcome to the forum,
First off, it is good to see that you are enthusiastic about getting started. I do recomend that you read "How to keep dwarf shrimp -- An Introduction" in the article section, as this will definitely get started. I have also found the shrimp varieties and petshrimp store sections to help me understand which shrimp/crafish are compatible. As you will find out, some species will inbreed with eachother and some are just plain agressive.
I am personally keeping red cherry, amano, bamboo, and ghost shrimp at the moment. I am currently focussing on my red chrries. I also want to get into other types of shrimp and even crayfish eventually. Please take the time to read about each of the types of shrimp you like and go from there.
The people on this site are very helpful and know a lot about their animals from their own experiences or those of other's . Again, welcome and I hope you have fun

Welcome to the forum. I strongly urge you to read the rules first as your first post already included a rule violation. I had to delete the portion of your post that was in violation. The rules are a must-read and absolutely essential to the functioning of this forum.
Next you should search the forum to answer all the questions that are going through your head. This forum has been around for a while and most "beginner" questions have been answered and discussed many times. No need to repeat questions. If, after thorough search, you still can't find any answers, then feel free to ask ahead. I'm pretty confident you'll find the answers to your questions in the forum and the articles, though, if you look closely and search thoroughly.

Look over the shrimp varieties page. Many of the shrimp you want either need different water parameters, or would interbreed. Don't keep shrimp of the same genus together such as snowballs and Red Cheries together as they are both varieties of the same species. Except for Macrobrachium and Palaemonetes species you don't need to fear about them eating each other.
Only the cajun crays should be kept with shrimp.
