Water change procedure

I am much more careful with my shrimp tanks than I am with my fish tanks when it comes to water changes.
My fish tanks get conditioner poured into the tank before filling directly with tap water.
Because my shrimp tanks are all less than 20 gallons, I fill 5 gallon buckets with cold tap water and condition it in the bucket for about 30 minutes before transferring it into a shrimp tank. I've done this with the idea that shrimp are simply more sensitive to chlorine and the extra work is beneficial to the shrimp.
Do most of you do a similar process with your shrimp or am I being too careful and cautious? I do know that the water conditioners work very quickly and wonder if I am just making more work for myself?
