The baby cherry shrimps are hatching tonight. First saw two, then four, and then I lost count. I have four more berried females, and many more showing saddles. My 10 gallon aquarium will become pretty busy in a short while.



I still have problems with hydras in my tank, but looking at the size of the newborn shrimps I'm a little relieved. The largest hydra that I've seen is still smaller than the newborn shrimps. I doubt the hydras can do much harm to the baby cherries, if at all. The hydras are mostly gone anyways, and they are removed as they are discovered. Now I really need the sponge filter that I've ordered on the internet before I lose any shrimps in HOB filter and its impellor.

Congratulations on the new babies Hope you get all the hydra out just in case they do harm the shrimp. Where did the hydra come from? Well be sure to put the sponge on ASAP but you can use a stocking or fine mesh temporarily. Best wishes and enjoy your new shrimp

I would keep an eye on the hydra if I were you....i've never had them in my shrimp tanks but I have had them in one of my snail tanks. The snails seemed to recoil slightly when walking over one.

Thanks Neonshrimp, Shrimp&Snails. The hydras and whole lot of other critters came into my fishtank with the plants I bought from eBay. After I've put the plants in my fishtank, I soon discovered the hydras, damselfly nymphs, planarias, scuds, and copepods. Now I know better, any plants I buy go through medium heat treatment before going into my fishtank.
