Hi!,

I just got back from my vacation to Seattle (Federal Way area) and I was wondering if there were any freshwater shrimp near there. I was also wondering if a species of saltwater shrimp (Crangon sp.) which have been found in brackish water, could be converted to permanantly live in a brackish and/or freshwater enviroment.

So far as I know, the only species of freshwater shrimp occurring in Washington state are non-native Exopalaemon modestus (the "Siberian freshwater prawn," native to southeastern China, Korea, Japan, and segments of the Russian Far East) and Palaemon macrodactylus (the "Oriental river shrimp" or "migrant prawn" of Korea, Japan, and China).

U.S. range maps for E. modestus and P. macrodactylus may be viewed here and here, respectively: both seem roughly consistent with online reports of "ghost shrimp" in the vicinity of Seattle.

What about the Crangon sp.? Can he be acclimated?
