Can anyone tell me if this suitable for hard water?

I have the chance to buy some, they are wild from Indonesia and nearly twice the price of crystal reds. So I don't want to fork out for something thats not going to thrive here.

Hi JK, If you check out the shrimp varieties section you will find more information on this shrimp, also named "Ninja" Shrimp. However, under water parameters it says, "can probably live under a wide range of water conditions".

The ones being offered here are the red and white variety.........I'd love to think these could be the hard water crystal reds I've always wanted.

What a shame it looks as though they will be very difficult to breed.

I think they would still be great shrimp to see swimming arround in a tank. I would like to have a few myself some day. If you have a chance maybe you should try a few. Don't forget to let us know how it goes

I was thinking of setting up a marine aquarium, but a bank of smaller shrimp tanks is now looking a more interesting prospect. For interest sake I think I'll go for the breedable ones.

Have you ever come across Caridina 'Crystal Black' ...........a black and white form of Crystal red maybe?........that means soft acid water

This is the place to have your questions answered. But be sure to do the seaching first as you will find that many questions have already been answered in this forum I am happy for you in the UK with the availability of all the different types of shrimp. The "crystal blacks" are also called "bee" shrimp and the CRS (crystal reds) are a genetic varient of these. If you start up a new tank, soft/acidic, you can give these shrimp a try. They are pretty sensitive so check out there specs on the shrimp varieties page to get ready. Best wishes and keep us posted
