Orange Dwarf Crays BUSTED!

Post by WetPets »

I always read that orange dwarf crays do not eat live plants.. I have four of them, they are constantly eating my anacharis..why do people say they don't eat live plants ?

Hi WetPets,

Are the crays snacking on healthy plants or are the plants shedding and breaking up? They like to eat dead and rotting plants. Also, what foods are you feeding them?

Shrimp pellets, blood worms...etc. And nope, really healthy plants. They're climbing up them and chowing down.

My experience has been that they only do that if they are not sufficiently fed. These little guys eat quite a bit.

I have to Agree with TDK and Mustafa.

I had to learn the hard way.
These little guys eat quite a bit.
I was not feeding them enough, and they made a meal out the the youngsters that were left in the same tank.
Are you feeding them greens
They like a viarity of food.
Both GREENS and MEAT.

I like to alternate with. greens and meat.
Atleast for me, they seem to eat better that way.

Beeing somewhat new to Crayfish.
I had to rethink my feeding program.

I could not feed them, the same way I was feeding my Shrimp Tanks.

I Hope This Helps

The thing is, I have to keep taking out the old food cause they won't get off my plants..they won't eat my other stuff. I fed them cucumbers, greenbeans, smashed peas, blood worms, shrimp pellets, and nothings. I don't understand it, I just got these guys in Monday.

Maybe they aren't what you think. Wait a while and see if they grow. It wouldn't be the first time juvie, rather than dwarf creys were sold to people.

There are plenty of similar looking crays that get big. Jive it some time and you'll know for sure. Try some cheap plants and see if they like them better.

Well there seems to be an exception to any rule :-D
Are you sure that you are talking about a Cambarellus patzcuarensis var orange and no orange Procambarus clarkii? The photo on your site shows a clarkii but says orange dwarf.

He's just saying that what you listed as "dwarf orange crayfish" is an orange Procambarus clarkii. And I agree. Out of stock or not...you don't want to mislabel pictures when you are selling animals.
