Lifespan of Dwarf Crayfish

Post by Neonshrimp »

I tried to find the lifespan of Dwarf Crayfish by doing searches and looked in the Shrimp Varieties and Petshrimp Store pages. Could you please let me know as I am interested in raising some of these and wanted to find out as much as I could about them.

Thanks.

I recently read a paper which estimated "that males of both species (C. shufeldtii and c. puer),unless removed from the population by predators, live for 15-18 months".

This is 1960's era research, and the paper did not specifically measure the lifespan of any specific individuals. This lifespan was estimated by observations of populations of wild specimens.

Usually animals live longer in captivity, too, so I'd say 2-3 years...but that's an estimate, too. We'll just have to wait for more reports to come in in the next few years.

Hmmm, 15-18 months in the wild sounds right to me. That solves why I see so many dead adult crayfish washed up on shore during a certain season of the year.
