are *your* Amanos?

it's strange, i have a heavily planted 20 Long that contains;

3 Dwarf Puffers
2 SAE's
3 Khuli loaches
about 15 Amano shrimp

and out of all of those animals, the most agressive animals are the Amanos, whenever it's feeding time, they'll stop grazing on algae and end up stealing food from the Puffers and Khulis, the've stolen live blackworms right out of the puffers mouths, and i've seen a couple of them walk off with the puffers snails as well

i always thought shrimp were rather timid creatures, but these guys rule the tank with their iron claws, i've had to resort to feeding the puffers their blackworms from an eyedropper so i can make sure the amanos dont steal them, it's their job to keep the algae under control

although to be fair, i do occasionally treat the amanos to blackworms, just not on a regular basis, can't have them getting lazy....

Mine will only steal from the cherries but against the Vampire Shrimp .... hoowee ... have you seen those shrimps defend their food .... nah ah ...

They haven't stolen any food from my dwarf puffers ... but they haven't stolen anything from any of my tetras either ... and I have lots of them in my 108 gallon.

I have the Tetraodon travancoricus, they are FW species; cute as a button too.

I find it strange they can live with your shrimp. The ones I had once way back when would eat the shimp all the time.

Every puffer has it's own unique personality, i can't guarantee that other DP's *wouldn't* eat the shrimp, mine are laid back, i did test them with a few ghost shrimp first, they ignored them, so it was safe to put in the Amanos

ironically, the only fish the puffers showed a modicum of interest in were the Khuli loaches, probably because they looked like big worms....

once they figured out the Khulis weren't worms, they ignored them

Mine are like yours, way laid back but I jut saw them nipped at the fin of a Kerri Tetra this afternoon ...

Well at least your amano shrimp aren't eating anyone else in the tank. They probably are just hungry and have come to realize the easiest meal is the one you put in the tank, like most any fish.

Our Amanos don't steal from our fish; we seldom see them in fact although once I saw one crawl into the floating worm feeder thing and chow down on some residual stuff in there for awhile. Our Amanos in their own species tank are sort of bold--they hear the top of their tank opening and they all come and stand up (sort of begging, shrimp style) wiggling their antennae and little legs and as soon as food is dropped in, they are all over it.
