Well, today while doing my rounds I decided to stare at my Reds. All the females have been saddled up for a while and I have seen several of them motl.

Today I saw my shrimp, do it... I have never seen it in action. two males swam up to my brightest red female and dragged her down. She looked a bit paralyzed while she and one of the males was swimmers to swimmers. funny thing was that while those 2 were at it, another male was holding her down on her back.

I have never witnessed this behavior in my shrimp before, and it was sort of an interesting (yet disturbing in a way) observation.

but..YES! I should be expecting my first baby cherry reds soon. I am really excited about this. One of the females already have the eggs in her swimmer.

You guys ever catch your shrimp in a behavior like this? I have had ghost shrimp many times in my life and I have never witnessed this part of their lifecycles.

I've never seen them do the deed, just plenty of berried females and new little shrimp. ;-)

I have witnessed this behavior a couple of times.
You just have to be there at the right time.

If you see the Males,
Actting a little different, and swimming around the tank like they are looking for something.
This is a good sign, that one of the females are ready to Mate.

Now, If you have enough spare time.
Pull up a chair, and try to catch them in the act.

I saw my shrimps doing it for the first time a couple days ago...it was quite...fascinating to watch. At first I thought my shrimps were dying...

I've seen my RCS do it once. This was about a month or so ago.

Nice pic, badflash. I've saw two males on a female recently too.

You guys realize that a male shrimp riding on a female is not mating but just foreplay, right? Shrimp mate "belly to belly."

I read that on here a few weeks ago (or was it a few days ago?) from one of you posts, Mustafa. So, I knew that.

used to have a short video clip of Palaemonetes mating, but alas, it is no more. From what I remember of the clip, the entire act takes one second from start to finish.

I caught some of my crays in the act the other morning when I switched on the lights. They bolted, and I was afraid I "ruined the mood," but the female was carrying eggs later that day, so I didn't mess up the IMPORTANT part. :)
