Cherry Shrimp question

I have about a dozen cherry shrimp in a small 5 liter tank. It is quite full of java moss with a bit of algae on the moss.
However, I was wondering if I should also offer supplemental foods and if so, what food does cherry shrimp eat beside algae? Actually, i would like another food source even if the java moss was sufficient as i want to move some of the shrimp out into another tank that does not have much algae and no moss at all.
