First time posting but I've been a long time lurker. I raise RCS, amanos, taiwan blues (?), and bamboo shrimp and a unknown kind. Which leads me to my question. I've searched in the shrimp ID section and the closest thing I can find is Macrobrachium faustinum. Is this what I have here? The store I got them from had them labeled as psychedelic shrimp.

I can't say for sure, but if they are M. faustinum, you've got two females. The adult males of that species have one claw that is much larger than the other.

Since I don't see any dayglow or tie dyed patterns, I doubt they're that psychedelic. I was also unable to find any references to a shrimp, of any species with that common name. Ther is, however oddly, a psychedelic fish. I have the sudden urge to listen to Smoke on the Water

It's interesting what kind of far-fetched names people come up with. This must be a local fish store/wholesaler creation since I have never seen any shrimp imported under that name.

Anyway, these look like and most likely are what is called (in most cases) "Chameleon Shrimp" from India. Here are some pictures of what adults (males in this case) approximately look like:

My own experience with "Chameleon shrimp" is that they turn a very nice blue/black with age but are also quite aggressive...much more so than many other macros I have kept. They get to be quite a bit larger than red claw macros (probably around 3.5-4 inches body size). What you have look like they're still juveniles by the way.

They are quite aggresive. They act more like a crayfish in that they like to dig borrows under rocks and mainly only come out to feed. Nothing like the other shrimp I have. The shrimp were labeled psychedelic shrimp on the order sheet of the stores supplier BTW.

I was looking at these guys today trying to see if I have a male or all females. I can see one has a claw that is larger than the other but it is the left claw. Most pics I've seen so far show the right claw being larger. Is it possible to have a left handed shrimp?

I would think so, since there are left- and right-handed male fiddler crabs.
