I skimmed through things and I didn't really see anything to address this. Do these shrimp get eggs inside them like a ghost shrimp does?
I have what is most likely the largest of my shrimp with a large mass in its lower belly area that looks alot like larger versions of what I think is eggs in ghost shrimp. Since I have never bred shrimp I could be mistaken. From what I've read the Rock shrimp can't/haven't been bred in captivity, correct?
I will try to get some pictures if the bugger will ever stay out and visible long enough for me to setup the camera...
Secondly I currently have 12 of these shrimp in a 95 gallon community tank, due to my wife moving her's out of her tank due to medicating. Is this to many? I don't really see them feeding on the rocks, mainly hanging off plants near the filter discharge as usual or on the underside of my drift wood above my bubble wand. Its great fun to watch them catching bubbles while hanging upside down off a java fern leaf and bouncing around like crazy. I put just a small pinch of first bites into the water each night to make sure there is some particulate matter for them to filter as well.
Thanks much

Rock/wood/bamboo shrimp eggs?

I would highly recommend going beyond "skimming." Actually, I expect people to spend a few hours at least before posting here. If you look at the species description of Atyopsis moluccensis your questions will all be answered. In addition to that there are quite a few forum postings on this shrimp.

What Mustafa said.
I house 12 in a 30 gallon long, so 12 in your 95 is fine--as long as you have sufficient water flow and enough hitcing spots for them to sit comfortably without being bothered by other fish, etc. in the tank.
I added branchy Malaysian driftwood, plants, and a Maxi-Jet 600 powerhead for my colony.

Thank you for the response Anne.
Mustafa, I've lurked on these forums since buying my first tank in December and didn't remember reading anything too specific on shrimp stock levels, unlike the multitude of online guidelines pertaining to fish stocking levels that are out there.
If I read the first 10 messages in a search and don't see anything pertaining to my question I ask my question. I'm not going to read through the last 2 years of posts to try and find an answer to something.
Maybe if there was a decent FAQ with some hard technical data in it, you might not feel obligated to jump on so many people for asking questions that may have been vaguely answered sometime in the last 6 months or so.
I have avoided posting here due to the rather oppresive moderation but when concerned about the well being of my animals I figured I'd try and ask...
A vibrant and healthy forum community comes from having discussion, debate, and providing helpful assistance to the uninitiated, not threatening the Modhammer to everyone that comes along.
Rather than jumping to conclusions as to what my definition of skimming is (I've read all the articles over the last few months and did a few recent searches as my skimming and did not find information that satisfactorily answered my questions) verses yours (I'm guessing you assumed I read the google search header and that's it), you might have included some links to searches you did on the answers that I couldn't find and a few hints as to the search function usage in the future so I could better answer my own questions.
Care to discuss or just swing the hammer?

This Forum is a collection of information which needs to be accessed by the users.
And your question may not be answered in the first 10 threads listed for any search, so you may need to read them all or narrow your search.
This is also a free Forum, and it may not have the best search function.
But, this is no reason to slam the owner of the Forum.
As to
And you will not read past the first 10 threads.

Some people think that rules are there to be broken, especially after they have NOT been spoon-fed the information they wanted. Here is Rule 6 which the person above just blatantly broke:
It's amazing that some people come here with the expectation that they have some kind of god-given right to be "served" information without having to do anything for it AND disregard the rules that their HOST has put up. Yes, this is like going to someone's house. If the HOST has the rule that you are supposed to take off your shoes at the door, then you, as the GUEST, better follow that rule, no matter how "ridiculous" you may think it is. If you proceed to walk all over the the host's carpet with your dirty shoes (i.e. disregard the rule), then don't be surprised that you get thrown out. So, either follow the rules or just don't go to that person's house.
I realize that the search function is not the best here and I am going to look for ways to improve that, however...nobody ever got banned because of the search function here. It's people who just blatantly disregard rules and don't even *attempt* to read the species descriptions and articles in addition to some *basic* searches. The vast majority of the searches work out just fine...there are just some bugs in the software that need to be worked out. These bugs *usually* do not affect beginners' searches here.
It's also amazingly telling (about a person's character) that people like the person above think the forum "sucks" (basically) that I "suck" and the way things are done here "suck" but still lurk around and suck up all the information that they may find beneficial at their leisure. It's the same old "give, give, give" or "i want, I want, I want" attitude without having to do *anything* for it or giving anything back. Then the same people, who get their information here, will go on other forums and try to badmouth me, the forum, and everything about me and the forum. Strangely, enough, they keep coming back here for more (as their IP addresses keep popping up in my logs) while concurrently telling others not to come here....
Again....this forum is DIFFERENT from other forums for a reason. The forum has a specific purpose...that is...the discussion of *factual* or at least *intelligently thought out and researched* information about shrimp among *INFORMED* members, free of myth and hearsay (i.e. "I heard....").
It's really simple...I do *NOT* want everyone to join this forum nor do I want everyone to keep shrimp...far from it. I want only people who are ready and willing to go through the work to INFORM themselves first, so they have the preparation to actually participate intelligently in this forum. How well can a person, who is not willing to even do the most basic research, possibly take care of shrimp? I just don't have the time to hold every lazy person's hand for the sake of their shrimp, and neither does anyone else..there are just too many people that should just not keep any animals at all...for the sake of the animals.
I am not making money off of banner ads (like most other websites out there..even with less traffic than my site) and don't need a million people on my website clicking away at banners. That's just not me. The information is out there *free of charge* to everyone...even the lazy ones and constant complainers and badmouthers...but if you want to actively participate you better inform yourself thoroughly and follow the rules.
If you can't do that, I would recommend going to *any* of the other forums out there because you are not welcome here. I don't know how much more directly I can put this.
The hobby needs to grow on solid foundations, not on myths, hearsay and a bunch of complainers who do absolutely *nothing* to contribute towards the growth/advancement of the hobby.
Over and out. Thread closed (as it has nothing to do with shrimp anymore). "Komabai" banned.
6. Do NOT join the forum and start critizing the site, the rules, the website owner, forum members etc. with your posts. Such posts do not belong into the forum and only disrupt the discussion and spread negativity. If you like the site, you stay. If you don't like it, you are free to leave, join another forum or create your own website/forum and do things "better." If you think you need to make suggestions, then you can write an email to the website owner. He may or may not take your suggestions into consideration. Rest assured that the website, the forum and the rules are the way they are for a reason. Violaters of this particular rule will get banned *immediately* without explanation and their posts/threads will be deleted.
