I got some CRS about 4 weeks ago. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I noticed one of the shrimp is berried. How long will it take for her to drop the kids?
I am using a magnifying glass to check every day but she is still hanging on to all of them.
Also how small will they be? I do a partial water change every few days and I am afraid that once they "hatch" I might vacuum them up.
Any help would be appreciated.

It will be about the same time and size as RCS, about 4 weeks (give or take a few days depending on temperature) and about 3mm long respectively.

But 3 mm are not that small, but I believe I will use either a brine shrimp net or a filter bag and place it over the vacuum intake when I do the next couple of water changes.

Good idea, 3mm long does not mean they can't crawl or squeeze into small openings

Congratulations! You are very lucky to have berried CRS just within 2weeks. Just noticed my CRS (1), Long Nose (2) and Tiger (1) are berried too. But only after setting up my new tank for about 3 months! Must be the mating season as coincidentally all species was berried at the same time (except my RCS). Do you find that the berries tend to be very big and black in color for the CRS? Wondering if this is healthy? The berries on my Long Nose is very small and yellowish in color. Can't wait till the baby comes!

The eggs on my CRS are always black or greenish black. Right before they hatch they will begin to look pinkish with the developed young inside. Takes as mentioned 23 to 30 days depending on temp etc.

Hi! Just noticed my 2 Long Nose with berries are no longer berried! I could'nt find any small hatchlings in my tank! Wondering if they had an abortion. Understand there's a need for brackish water to maintain the hatchlings, right? Is this before they hatch or while they are berried?

Sorry to hear about the missing eggs. How long did the shrimp carry them?

I am sure the brackish water is needed after the eggs are hatched for the baby shrimp.

It sounds like the shrimp dropped the eggs or as you put it aborted them.

This happens if the eggs are not fertilized and when the shrimp are really stressed. Do you know if any of the long nosed shrimp are males?

Hi! Yes, I had 3 males and 3 females.

I only perform 10% water change every 3 days or so. Water perimeters seems to be at its usual.

Now I'm keeping a close watch as I have a CRS and a Tiger berried as well.
