Malaya Question

Post by southerndesert »

Hello Mustafa and All,

I am interested in your opinion of this shrimp that is so different from the rest of my Malaya. Not being familiar with Malaya and relatively new to shrimp altogether this difference in appearance seems quite dramatic to me.

Mustafa have you seen this color variation before?

Now these shrimp were housed with Indian Zebra for a couple months and all were still Juveniles before separation. It it possible this is a color morph of the IZ shrimp shown below or in fact a Malaya?

Thanks for your input, Bill

You can safely exclude the possibility that it's a Malaya or an Indian Zebra. It looks like a red cherry shrimp male to me. It may be one of the red cherries that you had in your tank before that either went into hiding for a long time or was a tiny juvenile and grew up (also after going into hiding). Another possiblity may be that the little red cherry shrimp came with the indian zebras. Eithe way, it woudl have not been all that red as a juvenile. This shrimp definitely did *not* come in the bag of Malaya shrimp I sent you. :)

Thank you Mustafa,

I think you may be correct in that it came with the IZ Shrimp. I removed the same number (2) of RCS I put in that tank as a test some time ago. It sure looked like a RCS male to me as well, but thought I'd better ask your opinion on what it was before moving it into the RCS tank.

Learning as I go, Bill
