My Blue Tiger Shrimp experiment

Hello All,

I am giving the Blue Tiger Shrimps a try and have 10 healthy happy specimens in a 10 gallon tank. All are young, but close to breeding age so should have young fairly soon. These have been bread in the USA and although they do not breed 100% true you still get some like the parents, some darker, and some lighter all the way to barely having a blue tint to them.

Still a very cool shrimp and the gold/orange eyes are really neat and they (eyes) do breed true by the way...

Here are photos of 3 of my shrimps showing a difference in color intensity, I also have a couple that are darker than the darkest pictured, the 3rd photo is the lightest colored shrimp I have... Interestingly both the light and dark females will throw out both light and dark young from what a couple breeders here in the US have told me, but there are no percentage guarantees one way or the other.

They are absolutely beautiful shrimp and it will be interesting to watch breeding results baring any unforeseen disasters...

Cheers, Bill

Disaster #1 was today, one of my Tigers crawled up the heater cord and onto the glass top up under the light. I think you know what came next... Never had that happen before and geeze why one of these?

Hole is sealed to avoid further adventurous shrimp from meeting the same fate.

That is sad news, sorry to hear it. I think the srimp was not use to the new water conditions. Good Idea sealing the top.

They are doing great and have acclimated to their new tank and there have been no more leaving the tank. As was mentioned it was a case of new water freaking them out a little at first. I will try to get more photos up soon as they have now really colored up, it will be a while before I get lucky enough to see young though because they are several weeks away from being old enough I think.

Cheers, Bill

That's great news, so how big are they (lengthwise)?

They are about 1/2 inch or so now and this morning there were 2 molts in the tank so things seem to be going well and they are growing.

Well I have reached the next step in this experiment and found my first berried female this morning. My BT have grown up now and should see more soon judging by the females showing saddle. It will be interesting to observe the ratio of color hues from the first couple batches while I can still keep track of who has what babies and the first berried is on of the lighter females so I am especially interested in how many of the darker blue are born.

That is good news. Way to keep track/record the data to make this experiment more controlled. I will look forward to reading the result on these great little shrimp.

Thanks.

Any successful breeding of the Color Morp will be a great asset for the US Hobby.
There does not seem to be alot of Hobbyist breeding this Morph.
