I am good now with my general environment and also water paramaters etc... but I just want some opinions on feeding.

Although my 12gal now has lots of tiny shrimplets buzzing about, my tank currently contains two mature females and two mature males. I have been giving them one crab cuisine pellet at 6pm every day. Each of them come has a bit of a nibble and then once they are finished the snails mop up the mess.

However, I fed them the usual one pellet on Saturday evening and then didn't bother on Sunday evening. By Monday I noticed that my shrimp seemed to be a lot more active. Scanning the tank and picking away, particularly at the filter sponge.

Was this because they were starving, or is this a better scenario thus meaning maybe I SHOULD just feed them every other day?

I have found ,
That healthy Shrimp will feed none stop, or pick away at the Sponge Filter & Gravel.

I prefer to feed my Shrimp Crushed up Flake food rather than Pellets or Waffers.
The Tiny Flakes will scatter over the bottom of the Tank and not just in one place.
Giving eveny Shrimp a Chance at some food, and not a pile of Shrimp on 1 waffer.

Small Shrimp will be picking away at the sponge & gravel for food.
If you have a seasoned tank, the very young shrimp will feed on the Bio-Film, So try and only put enough food in for the Sub-Adult & Adult Shrimp.
Since you only have 4 Adult Shrimp, the Snails probably eat the remaining Waffer/Pettet.

But, it sounds like you will have alot of Adult Shrimp in no time, and then the feeding amount will change again

Just make sure to keep up on the weekly water changes,
And if the Shrimp are not active, you may be overfeeding and additional water changes may be in order.

They were not starving They were just exhibiting their natural scavenging/picking behavior. One crab cuisine pellet is actually enough to feed the entire tank including the snails right now. The shrimp are only eating a small fraction of it right now and the rest is going to the snails and you will likely see an increase in snail population until feeding matches amount of animails in your tank. The shrimp will find enough food on there own in an established tank and you are just supplimenting with the added food at this time Again they are not starving.
